1 dead, 2 hurt in Wash. shooting; gunman sought
Police say 1 person killed, 2 wounded at home shooting in Lacey, Wash., after argument
By The Associated Press

LACEY, Wash. (AP) ' A triple-shooting inside a suburban home left one person dead Monday, and authorities scoured the area for a gunman who fled in a dark hoodie by jumping over backyard fences.

Lacey police Cmdr. Jim Mack said one victim was fatally wounded and two were taken to a hospital. He did not know their conditions.

Eight schools were temporarily placed on lockdown as law enforcement officers spread across several square miles in search of the gunman. Mack said he couldn't remember the last homicide that happened in the city, a suburb of the state capital and 60 miles south of Seattle.

"Lacey is a pretty quiet area, and this is a quiet neighborhood," Mack said.

After getting information that the gunman had fled toward a nearby home, officers surrounded the area with a SWAT team and canine units. Mack has hoped the gunman would be found inside, but he said after a couple hours that he was not there.

Two people inside that home were detained for questioning, and Mack said they may know something about what happened.

The shooting appears to be an isolated attack stemming from an argument, Mack said. One of the victims was shot in the chest, another below the waist and the third in the head, he said.

The North Thurston schools that were locked down Monday morning were Chambers Prairie, Horizons, Lakes, Mountain View, Woodland, Aspire, Komachin and Timberline.
