2 Texans trade barbs in GOP presidential debate
Perry, Paul square off at debate as the Texans compete for GOP's presidential nomination
By The Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) ' Texas congressman Ron Paul and front-runner Texas Gov. Rick Perry are jabbing at each other during a presidential debate that is exposing deep division between the pair.

Paul and Perry criticized each other during Wednesday's debate at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, Calif., a memorial to the conservative who counseled fellow Republicans not to speak ill about one another.

Neither Paul nor Perry is heeding that advice.

Paul says Perry is "less conservative than meets the eye," while Perry counters that Paul left the GOP a turncoat against Reagan's Republican Party.

Over the past few weeks, both candidates have seen their standing in the GOP field rise and have sharpened their criticism of each other. Paul has been poking at Perry, seeking to tarnish the governor's image.
