2 facing discipline for failing to report possible blood sighting during search for Ga. girl
CANTON, Ga. (AP) ' A sheriff says a deputy and a trainee are facing discipline for failing to report seeing what appeared to be blood during the search for a missing 7-year-old north Georgia girl who later was found dead.
Cherokee County Sheriff Roger Garrison told WSB-TV on Wednesday that the day after Jorelys Rivera disappeared, the two searched an empty apartment and said it was clear. He says they didn't report seeing a trace of blood and that the apartment turned out to be where the girl was killed.
Jorelys disappeared on Dec. 2 after leaving a playground at the apartment complex. Her body was found three days later in a trash bin.
A 20-year-old maintenance worker has been charged in her killing.
The sheriff's office didn't immediately return a message to The Associated Press.
