3 charged after 4 mentally disabled adults found chained to boiler in NE Philly basement
PHILADELPHIA (AP) ' Two of three suspects charged with keeping four mentally disabled adults locked in a squalid Philadelphia basement have been arraigned on kidnapping and related charges.
Gregory Thomas and Eddie Wright are being held on $500,000 bail following their arraignments Sunday.
Police say Thomas, Wright and 51-year-old Linda Ann Weston kept four adults chained in the sub-basement of a Philadelphia apartment building. They say the building's landlord discovered the malnourished victims on Saturday.
Investigators say the victims were kept behind a chained-shut steel door. Police say they have the mental capacity of 10-year-olds.
Online court records do not indicate if Weston has been arraigned. The Philadelphia Inquirer reports she served eight years in prison for the 1981 starving death of a man who refused to support her sister's unborn child.
