4 women surrender in Hawaii toy store theft
Lawyer: 4 women surrender in Hawaii toy store theft, arrested, released pending investigation
By The Associated Press

KANEOHE, Hawaii (AP) ' Four women have surrendered to police after they were seen on surveillance footage taking items from a Hawaii toy store before Christmas.

Attorney Myles Breiner says they turned themselves in Tuesday, were arrested on suspicion of second-degree theft and then released pending an investigation. They were among a group of six police say hauled away merchandise at the Toys R Us store at Windward Mall in Kaneohe before Christmas.

After police released the footage last week, some of the women contacted Breiner. He says a fifth woman and a man are expected to surrender in the coming days.

Breiner says most of the women are single, unemployed mothers who stole the toys as Christmas gifts for their children.

Hawaii News Now reports one of the suspects is six months pregnant.
