9 jurors picked for Sandusky sex abuse trial; ties to Penn St. won't keep people off panel
BELLEFONTE, Pa. (AP) ' Nine jurors have been chosen in the Jerry Sandusky child sex abuse trial on the first day of the selection process.
Defense attorney Karl Rominger gave the updated total late Tuesday afternoon.
That leaves just seven more seats open. The panel is to include 12 jurors and four alternates.
Jury selection began earlier Tuesday with some 220 people reporting.
Sandusky, a former Penn State assistant football coach, faces 52 criminal counts for alleged abuse of 10 boys. He denies the charges.
Jurors are being chosen from people who live in the State College area, where Penn State's main campus is located.
Connections to Penn State haven't been enough to keep prospective jurors from being chosen. The presiding judge such links might be OK, as long as jurors can be impartial.
