A Guide to Marathon Success

By P&G Expert for The Style Glossy

Today, at the London 2012 Olympic Games, the women’s marathon is being run. The course will circuit much of central London, starting and finishing in the Mall.

Here’s how to keep yourself in tip top form with a marathon guide to beauty. Here P&G’s Beauty & Grooming brands help you be prepared for beauty pitfalls, in a guide to marathon related hazards.

0 miles: Waiting for the starting pistol to fire
To keep yourself on track, pre-preparation is essential. Hydrate, energize and plan your strategy for success. On your marks….

4 miles: Ease the chafe with Braun
The race is on to keep legs hair free and super smooth so you can stride out with confidence, showing off your perfect pins. The Braun Silk-épil Xpressive Pro gives you silky smooth skin for up to four weeks.
Try Braun’s step-by-step guide to performance legs:

Step One:
Get in the shower or run a bath – it really is a good way to relax.

Step Two:
Prep the skin; exfoliate to give yourself a good clean basis for epilation. Use exfoliating gloves or a loofah and an exfoliating product over your body in circular motions.

Step Three:
Before the epilator makes contact, stretch the area of skin slightly using your hand. By doing so, you will create a smoother (flatter) surface making it easier for the epilator to grab even the shortest of hairs. The Braun Silk-épil range of epilators include ‘Smart- Light Technology’, a little light which shines onto the skin to make sure no hair goes unnoticed – great for underwater use.

Step Four:
Now it’s time to get epilating. Choose your first area and start to run the epilator slowly over the skin, against the hair growth. If needed change the epilation direction to achieve an even smoother finish. Once you get more confident, experiment on other areas using the different head caps which increase or decrease the number of tweezers touching the skin – it’s best to use fewer tweezers on more sensitive areas such as the bikini line.

Step Five:
As soon as you are happy with your epilation results, apply your favourite body lotion to moisturize and help soothe the skin and to give you a super soft professional looking finish.

Remember the road to long lasting smooth skin is a marathon not a sprint. The more you use your epilator, the quicker and easier the epilating sessions will become giving you the best results.

8 Miles: Control Sweat with Gillette

To keep others in your company and save them from running a mile, make sure you have great protection from both moisture and odour. The Gillette Response Anti-Perspirant deodorants (RRP £2.69) feature Betacyclodextrin (BCD) technology. BCD absorbs the bad odour, releasing a light fresh fragrance, previously locked away within the BCD molecule, in its place. The process is ongoing, activating and re-activating as needed by your body to remove the need to freshen up constantly and keep you fragrant, ready to perform as and when you need to.

11 Miles: Keep dry lips at bay with Max Factor

“Lips are prone to drying out and to lines and wrinkles as we age” says Max Factor’s Lip Expert Alan McBurnie. Lip surfaces are particularly sensitive as they have more nerve endings and unlike other skin surfaces don’t have sebaceous glands to soften and condition the skin. Skin layers are thinner too so we need to look after them by keeping them hydrated and well-conditioned.

This season Max Factor launches Color Elixir lipstick which contains an Elixir treatment of avocado, shea and aloe butters that improve lip moisture as well as beautiful rich color pigments – so there is no need to wear balm and a lip color.

If you prefer a sheer color to add gloss to your look, discover the beautiful sheer color of Max Factor Sheer Gloss Balm, a sheer gloss combined with the soft feel of a balm. This luxurious formula is enriched with Mango-butter and Shea-butter and keeps lips moisturized and contains SPF10 for added protection.

16 Miles: Stop that itchy head with head&shoulders

Tell-tale snowflakes on shoulders give away the beauty hazard of an itchy flaky scalp. Rather than rub yourself up the wrong way, soothe and protect with head&shoulders Active Sport shampoo.

22 Miles: Quench thirsty skin with Olay

Dry skin more than doubles the speed in which women develop facial wrinkles – not good news for busy Mums on the run. The new Olay Essentials range is perfect for women with a busy schedule. Try the new Olay Essentials SPF 30 Day Lotion for normal/dry/combination skin. This gorgeous lotion gives your skin everything it needs most to look healthy and beautiful plus extra protection against daily incidental sun exposure in a light, non-greasy formula.

26.2 Miles: Finish on a high

Cross the finish line with a radiant and confident smile. The Oral B Triumph 5000 with Smart Guide power brush is an innovative power that guides the user step by through the cleaning process enabling the maximum benefit from their oral care routine. Use together with Oral-B® Pro-Expert for a perfect point scoring smile.
