APNewsBreak: Judge tosses lawsuit on MLK documents
APNewsBreak: Judge dismisses MLK estate lawsuit seeking documents from son of King's secretary
By The Associated Press

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) ' A federal judge has dismissed a lawsuit brought by the estate of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. that sought documents and other material connected to the civil rights leader.

The lawsuit was filed in September in U.S. District Court in Jackson against Howard Ballou, an anchor for WLBT-TV in Jackson. The suit said Ballou's mother worked for King as a secretary from 1955 to 1960 and kept documents during the time King led the Montgomery Improvement Association and the Southern Christian Leadership Conference.

Judge Tom Lee dismissed the lawsuit Friday, saying there's nothing to contradict Maude Ballou's testimony that King gave her the material.

Ballou has said in court papers that his parents were friends of King. He insisted the items were gifts that belong to his family.
