APNewsBreak: Sailor who killed 2 during 1977 bus hijacking at NY airport deported to Panama
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) ' A former U.S. Navy seaman who killed two people during a New York City bus hijacking on Independence Day 1977 and had been in an upstate prison has been deported.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement authorities tell The Associated Press agents escorted Luis Robinson to his native Panama on a commercial flight late Wednesday.
Robinson pleaded guilty to felony murder. He was released into federal custody from the Auburn Correctional Facility on Monday. He had served 34 years for fatally shooting the driver and a passenger from Massachusetts on a bus hijacked in the Bronx and diverted to John F. Kennedy International Airport in Queens.
Robinson at the time was a 26-year-old Navy seaman and U.S. permanent resident. He lived in Somerset, N.J. His ship was in Maine. He demanded a $6 million ransom and a plane to Cuba but later surrendered.
