APNewsBreak: Scientists back new test for HGH that extends detection window to 3 weeks
LONDON (AP) ' Anti-doping officials say scientists have endorsed a new test for human growth hormone that can detect such drug use as far back as 21 days and could be implemented for next year's London Olympics.
U.S. Anti-Doping Agency CEO Travis Tygart tells The Associated Press the test won unanimous consensus among anti-doping scientists and experts from around the world who attended a London symposium.
Tygart says the test still needs final validation by the World Anti-Doping Agency. It could be used alone or together with the existing test, which can detect HGH use going back only 12 to 72 hours.
He says the new test could also be valid for use in the NFL, whose players' union has not yet agreed to the introduction of HGH checks.
