Abramoff criticizes reforms after lobbying scandal
Abramoff the reformer? Notorious lobbyist writes a call to action to stop special interests
By The Associated Press

WASHINGTON (AP) ' Jack Abramoff, the former lobbyist who went to prison on corruption charges, says the reforms made in response to his influence-pedaling scandal are basically toothless.

Abramoff is out with a new book Monday that suggests further reforms that he says would be more effective at combating the special interest power like he once wielded. He says the most effective yet corrupt lobbying practices are still perfectly legal.

He says political contributions from lobbyists and those who receive government benefits should be banned. He also says lawmakers and their staffs should be banned for life from entering lobbying.

Abramoff was released from prison last year after serving 3 1/2 years. He's one of 20 people convicted in the sweeping investigation of his practices.
