Pristine copy of Action Comics _ lost for 11 years _ goes up for auction online
PHILADELPHIA (AP) ' Superman collectors with deep wallets can have a chance to own the character's first appearance when a near pristine copy of the first issue of Action Comics goes up for auction.
Stephen Fishler, CEO of ComicConnect.com and Metropolis Collectibles, said Friday that the issue, which marked the first time Superman appeared in print, is expected to surpass the record for the highest price ever paid for a single comic book, which was also a copy of the first issue of Action Comics that went for $1.5 million in March 2010.
This new issue was missing for 11 years after it was stolen in 2000 from a collector. It was recovered earlier this year, undamaged, in a storage shed.
