Albuquerque not only city facing US Department of Justice police probe call from activists
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) ' New Mexico activists are ramping up their call for a Justice Department probe into Albuquerque police after officers shot and killed two men last week ' bringing the total of such shootings to 18 in just over two years.
But Albuquerque isn't the only city facing demands for federal probes due to officer-involved shootings.
Activists in Las Vegas, San Bernardino, Calif., Omaha, Neb., and Austin, Texas, also have called for federal authorities to investigate into police departments following officer-involved shootings.
Last year, the Justice Department launched probes into police in Miami and Portland, Ore. Miami officers had shot and killed eight people in 16 months. And Portland authorities fatally shot five people in 18 months.
Albuquerque police have been involved in 23 total officer shootings since 2010.
