Egyptians say American democracy workers on trial can leave after US pays bail
CAIRO (AP) ' Egyptian officials say the U.S. has posted bail for the American democracy workers facing trial on charges of fomenting unrest and they are clear to leave the country.
Egypt lifted a travel ban late Wednesday on seven of the 16 Americans charged in the case ' the other nine had already left the country.
Court officials said Thursday that the U.S. paid bail for all 16 Americans ' 2 million Egyptian pounds (about $300,000) each. The son of U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood is among the seven who have sought refugee at the American Embassy in Cairo.
