When my awfully nave imagination conjures up images of the English seaside, it's a slate grey, dreary, and windswept kind of place that comes to mind. But, apparently there also lies a spot that's bursting in warmth and color. The English Riviera; a place chock full of palm trees, golden sand, rolling hills, fine dining, and yachts galorea place recently lauded by the English outfit Metronomy, who used the locale as the title inspiration for their third album.Like the oasis that inspired them, Metronomy churn nifty pop renderings, slightly exotic in make-up, and devastatingly catchy. It's an unexpected discovery, at least on this side of the Atlantic. Like Phoenix two years ago, the band has been around for twelve years, though mass appeal is only really starting to take hold. Word is spreading, however. The band was recently nominated for The Mercury Prize, and a heavy work load will have them doing their fair share of globe trekking this Fall. We think you should find a way to go see 'em. But before you do, bone up on all the background info with our interview with the band's Joseph Mount and Oscar Cash.
