Annan in Iraqi for talks on peace plan for Syria
Annan in Baghdad for talks with Iraqi leaders aimed at salvaging peace plan for Syrian crisis
By The Associated Press

BAGHDAD (AP) International envoy Kofi Annan has arrived in Iraq on an outreach tour to Syria's allies in the Mideast.

Annan touched down in Baghdad on Tuesday after a one-day trip to Iran, a key Damascus ally.

Iraqi government spokesman Ali al-Dabbagh says Annan will meet with Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki to discuss ways to end the bloodshed in neighboring Syria.

Al-Dabbagh says Baghdad plans to offer solutions to the 16-month-old crisis. He did not offer any details.

Annan is reaching out to Syria's allies to salvage his faltering peace plan to end the Syrian crisis, which activists say has killed more than 17,000 people.

The trips to Iraq and Iran come a day after Annan agreed with Syrian President Bashar Assad on a new framework to stop the violence.
