Ark. correction officials turn over execution drug
APNewsBreak: Arkansas turns over execution drug to feds amid legal questions over its use
By The Associated Press

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) ' Arkansas has turned over a supply of a key lethal-injection drug obtained from a British supplier amid legal questions over its use.

Arkansas Department of Correction spokeswoman Dina Tyler said Thursday that the state gave federal officials all of the sodium thiopental that it received from the company Dream Pharma. It wasn't clear if the state had other supplies of the drug that weren't expired.

A court document filed Thursday by Arkansas' attorney general shows the sodium thiopental was turned over July 5 to the Drug Enforcement Administration for destruction. The DEA has taken supplies of the drug from several other states.

A DEA spokesman in Little Rock didn't immediately return messages seeking comment.
