Attorney: Customs agent directed trucker to Mexico
Attorney disputes US Customs over whether officers directed trucker with ammunition to Mexico
By The Associated Press

EL PASO, Texas (AP) ' The lawyer for a Texas trucker who says he made a wrong turn before taking ammunition into Mexico is disputing U.S. customs officials who say their agency didn't see the driver before he crossed the border.

El Paso attorney Carlos Spector said at a news conference Wednesday that 27-year-old Javin Bogan told him by phone that he was trying to back up and turn around when an officer told him to continue across the bridge.

Spector said Bogan's description matched that of a Customs and Border Protection officer.

Customs spokesman Roger Maier says officers with other agencies wear similar uniforms.

Mexican officials say Bogan faces up to 35 years in prison after being caught with 268,000 rounds of ammunition last month. Bogan's shipping company says the cargo was legal.
