Authorities ID man found dead at Churchill Downs; police say death not connected to track
LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) ' A Kentucky coroner has identified the body of a man found in the stable area of Churchill Downs hours after the Kentucky Derby as a race track worker.
WHAS-TV reports (http://bit.ly/J7LrS0 ) that the Jefferson County coroner has identified the victim as 48-year-old Adan Fabian Perez, a groomer from Guatemala.
Louisville Metro Police say the death is being investigated as a homicide.
Police spokeswoman Alicia Smiley said the victim "did sustain injuries that lead us to believe he was involved in some type of altercation."
Perez' body was found at the back of a barn but authorities say there appears to be no connection to the race track.
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
About a week after last year's Derby, jockey Michael Baze's body was found in a vehicle near the stables. His death was ruled an accidental drug overdose.
