Baltimore mayor declares state of emergency as Hurricane Irene approaches Md's largest city

BALTIMORE (AP) ' Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake has declared a state of emergency as Hurricane Irene approaches Maryland's largest city.

On Friday, she urged residents of low-lying areas in south and southeast Baltimore to move their vehicles and offered free parking.

Rawlings-Blake also urged those who live along streams or in areas that are subject to flooding to stay alert and to be prepared to move their vehicles or evacuate.



Baltimore has a population of about 621,000 people.
