Barak says Israel never ruled out attacking Iran
Barak says Israel never promised US it would hold off attacking Iran while talks take place
By The Associated Press

JERUSALEM (AP) ' Israel's defense minister says his country has never promised the United States it would hold off from attacking Iran while nuclear talks were taking place.

Officials from the world's major powers met with Iran in Istanbul last weekend. The talks were described as positive, and they agreed to meet again on May 23 in Baghdad.

Ehud Barak told Israel's Army Radio Tuesday he didn't believe the talks would prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon. He said Israel regretted the time being lost. "This is precious time," he said.

The comments further exposed a rift between Israel and the U.S. over how to deal with the Islamic Republic. The U.S. favors diplomacy over a military strike.
