Bitter primaries undercut GOP hopes in 3 states
Pennsylvania, Michigan, Florida _ GOP highlights in 2010 now marked by bitter Senate primaries
By The Associated Press

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) ' The battleground states of Florida, Pennsylvania and Michigan were looking ideal for Republicans trying to regain a Senate majority in the November elections.

The GOP romped in all three states in 2010, grabbing governorships, seizing legislatures and winning House and Senate seats. The three Democrats facing re-election in 2012 ' Florida's Bill Nelson, Pennsylvania's Bob Casey and Michigan's Debbie Stabenow (STAB'-ih-now) ' were certain to face top GOP recruits and strong political headwinds.

With just over five months to Election Day, the three states now could become missed opportunities for the GOP.

Florida has an ugly GOP primary between Rep. Connie Mack and former Sen. George LeMieux. Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Corbett's pick to run against Casey finished an embarrassing third in the primary. And Michigan has a fierce GOP primary.
