Bruins coach denies claim Backstrom was targeted
'It's ludicrous; it's ridiculous': Julien denies Hunter's charge Bruins targeted Backstrom
By The Associated Press

ARLINGTON, Va. (AP) ' Boston coach Claude Julien says it's "ludicrous" to think the Bruins would target the head of Capitals center Nicklas Backstrom, who missed half the season with a concussion.

Asked Wednesday for his reaction to Washington coach Dale Hunter's charge the Bruins were "crossing the line" by going after Backstrom during the teams' first-round playoff series, Julien said: "I don't know any coach that would tell his team to go after somebody's head."

Julien added: "We're not whining about the referees."

Backstrom will miss Thursday night's Game 4 after being suspended for a cross-check of Rich Peverley at the end of Game 3, a play the Capitals player said "was stupid on my part." Hunter says Backstrom was trying to protect himself.
