Case against ex-Houston officer goes to jury
Jury begins deliberations in ex-Houston officer's videotaped beating case
By The Associated Press

HOUSTON (AP) ' Jurors have started deliberating in the trial of a former Houston police officer accused of participating in the videotaped beating of a 15-year-old burglary suspect.

Andrew Blomberg told the Harris County jury he didn't mistreat the teen, insisting he never kicked or stomped on his head or neck as prosecutors have alleged. The former officer faces up to a year in jail if convicted.

Blomberg testified he only used his foot to move and secure Chad Holley's arm during the March 2010 daylight arrest after the suspect tried to flee from police who were investigating a break-in.

The case went to the jury after closing arguments Tuesday morning.

A federal lawsuit that Holley filed against Blomberg, the other fired officers and the city of Houston is pending.
