Chicago club opens doors for emerging comics
Club on Chicago's South Side featuring emerging comics to participate in big comedy festival
By The Associated Press

CHICAGO (AP) ' Jokes and Notes in Chicago is one of the few comedy clubs in the U.S. that's owned and operated by a black women.

The club features emerging comics. It's participating in one of the nation's largest and most prestigious comedy festivals, TBS Just for Laughs, for the third time in a row.

Club owner Mary Lindsey runs her business like a drill sergeant, and the young comics spilling in and out of her door know better than to ignore her commands.

TBS Just for Laughs convenes scores of comedians in the city for six days, and Jokes and Notes is its only venue on Chicago's South Side. The festival features well-known acts such as Sarah Silverman and Hannibal Burress, while also including venues such as Lindsey's.
