China FM tells US to revoke Taiwan arms sale
China FM tells US to revoke arms sale to Taiwan, but concludes China-US ties will prevail
By The Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) ' China's foreign minister is calling for the U.S. to revoke its latest decision to sell arms to Taiwan, saying it seriously undermines ties between the superpowers.

But Yang Jiechi concluded his wide-ranging speech to American businessmen Thursday on a positive note.

He said that the U.S.-China relationship "will overcome the difficulties and continue to move forward."

On Wednesday, the Obama administration notified Congress of its intent to upgrade Taiwan's fleet of F-16s. It deferred a decision on selling new warplanes ' widely seen as a concession to Beijing.

Yang said arms sales "grossly interfered in China's internal affairs."

Beijing regards self-governing Taiwan as its territory.

Yang is attending the U.N. General Assembly in New York.
