China finishes 1-2 in 3-meter diving at worlds
Wu Minxia wins China's 9th gold medal in diving at world championships

SHANGHAI (AP) ' Wu Mingxia narrowly won the women's 3-meter title at the world championships, holding off teammate He Zi by 1.7 points to give China its ninth gold medal and 13th overall in diving.

Wu totaled 380.85 points in the five-dive round Saturday, while He finished with 379.15.

Jennifer Abel of Canada earned the bronze with 365.10. American Christina Loukas was fourth with 350.10.

Newly retired NBA star Yao Ming attended the final and signed autographs.

SHANGHAI (AP) ' Qiu Bo was the top qualifier in the semifinals of men's 10-meter diving at the world championships, putting China in position to win another gold medal.

Qiu totaled 579.55 points in the six-dive round Saturday, with Sascha Klein of Germany second at 502.85. Victor Minibaev of Russia was third with 493.55.

American David Boudia was fourth at 486.30, and China's Zhou Luxin was fifth. Defending champion Tom Daley of Britain was sixth.

The top 12 advanced to Sunday's final.

The men's platform title has been elusive for the powerhouse Chinese. They lost the event both at the Beijing Olympics and the world meet two years ago in Rome.

The Chinese have won all eight diving events so far.
