Conn. man shifted blame in deadly home invasion
Conn. man charged with deadly home invasion blamed co-defendant in 2007 confession
By The Associated Press

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) ' A Connecticut man facing trial on charges of killing a woman and her two daughters during a 2007 home invasion told police that he tied up the victims and molested the 11-year-old girl.

But in his 2007 statement to police obtained this week by The Associated Press, Joshua Komisarjevsky (koh-mih-sar-JEV'-skee) blamed his co-defendant for setting the house on fire.

Komisarjevsky insists in the confession he never intended to kill anyone.

He claims co-defendant Steven Hayes wanted to kill the family because he was worried the pair would leave behind evidence. He says Hayes doused the house in gasoline and lit the match that engulfed the home in flames.

Komisarjevsky's trial starts Sept. 19. Hayes was convicted last year and is on death row. During his trial, he portrayed Komisarjevsky as the mastermind.
