Testifying at NYC trial, cousin of admitted terrorist says he had role in subway plot
NEW YORK (AP) ' A cousin of admitted terrorist Najibullah Zazi says he was in on Zazi's failed 2009 plot to attack New York City subways with suicide bombers.
The cousin testified Monday that he had pleaded guilty to charges he helped Zazi get terror training. He's taken the witness stand as a government witness against Zazi's father ' the cousin's uncle ' at a federal obstruction-of-justice trial in Brooklyn.
He told jurors that his uncle plotted to destroy evidence and lie to a grand jury to protect Najibullah Zazi.
Zazi has pleaded guilty to charges he received explosives training from al-Qaida in Pakistan and sought to attack the subways with two friends before the FBI intervened.
His 55-year-old father, Mohammed Wali Zazi, denies he knew anything about the plot or destroyed evidence.
