Crash claims utility worker; US blackout toll 25
Utility worker dies in truck crashes, raising deaths to 25 in storm and widespread blackouts
By The Associated Press

BLUEMONT, Va. (AP) The death toll blamed on storms and the ensuing blackout across the eastern U.S. is now at 25 after a utility worker crashed her truck in Virginia whole helping restore electric lines.

The sheriff's office in Loudoun County, on the Maryland border, said Wednesday the bucket truck developed brake problems while driving and went downhill into an intersection, where it was hit by a semi-trailer.

The crash late Tuesday killed the bucket truck driver, 57-year-old Jacqueline Green, who had come up from Milton, Fla., to work on emergency repairs to the power grid.

Officials previously blamed 24 deaths on the storm and its aftermath.

More than 900,000 homes and businesses remained without power early Wednesday from the Mid-Atlantic to the Midwest.
