Anti-war demonstrators at downtown plaza in Washington are in process of permit extension
WASHINGTON (AP) ' Demonstrators who have spent five days camping at a plaza in the heart of Washington to protest war and other causes say they've sent an e-mail requesting an extension of their permit for four months, although a spokesman for the National Park Service says nothing has been finalized.
Kevin Zeese, a demonstrator who met with park officials Monday to discuss an extension, said the group sent an e-mail Monday evening requesting the change after the group's original permit expired. Zeese said the group got a reply saying the request would be sent through the approval process, but demonstrators believed that was a formality after their talk with officials.
Park Service spokesman Bill Line said Tuesday he was not aware of the e-mail request and that nothing had been finalized.
