The diving pool is a hive of activity Saturday, a day before that competition begins.

There's no competition Saturday in the diving pool, but it is still a hive of activity. One diver, standing on the 10-meter platform claps to catch the attention of his coach, below them the steady thrum of the three 3-meter springboards as they vibrate after each dive.

Occasionally two competitors from different nations will strike up a brief conversation before it is their turn to take the board.

The system is respectful and relaxed the only exception being the towel throwing.

As the divers dry themselves off, they hurl the towels down below them without looking. A few times this means a towel in the surprised face of the previous diver as they break the surface.

It's not just the divers practicing, either. The broadcast cameras bob up and down as the crews work to get their moves right, too.
