D&G finds infinite uses for the humble scarf in a boldly colored summer/spring collection
MILAN (AP) ' D&G has attempted a response to a burning fashion question: how many ways can one wear the humble scarf?
D&G's womenswear collection for spring/summer 2012 presented Thursday during Milan Fashion Week is built around the foulard ' a trick the designers anticipated with the menswear collection previewed in June.
But face it, women's clothing offers so many more incarnations for the silk, patterned kerchief.
Start with a tight minidress, that appears to be fashioned out of four distinct scarves tied on the side and overlapping ' though certainly in reality they were expertly stitched together.
Then there's a loose blouse over a short skirt, a bandeau top paired with balloon shorts and short one-piece playsuits, and long skirts with handkerchief hemlines.
For evening, Dolce and Gabbana added sequins, and for relaxed afternoons there's denim.
Colors, of course, are bold and clashing. The collection is decidedly summer and fun, and light to pack for a weekend at the beach or fancy port.
D&G even made platform shoes using scarves as a strap. Broad-brimmed raffia hats tied with scarves protect from the sun.
In true Dolce and Gabbana style, the preview for their second line ended with a profusion of models, wearing mostly maxi granny dresses made from sheer scarves, and easy-to-walk-in flat sandals adorned with clinking gold-colored coins.
