World champs Davis-White samba way to lead in ice dance at US Figure Skating Championships
By The Associated Press

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) ' Meryl Davis and Charlie White sambaed their way into the lead at the U.S. Figure Skating Championships on Friday.

The first Americans to win a world title in ice dance, Davis and White haven't lost a competition since the 2010 world championships ' and it doesn't look as if that streak will end here.

They scored 76.89 for the short dance, more than four points more than Maia and Alex Shibutani, last year's runners-up and the surprise bronze medalists at worlds. Their score of 76.89 for the short dance was more than four points ahead of Maia and Alex Shibutani, last year's runners-up and the surprise bronze medalists at worlds. And it was well ahead of what anyone managed earlier this week at the European championships.

Madison Hubbell and Zachary Donohue were a distant third with 57.56. The free dance is Sunday.

The men's short program is later Friday.
