Dear Wall Street occupiers: Hundreds of letters, parcels bring encouragement _ and cookies
NEW YORK (AP) ' The Wall Street protests in New York City that have been raging for over a month are inspiring people across the country and abroad to send letters of support.
Since the protests began on Sept. 17, protesters at the Zuccotti Park encampment say they've received about 100 letters a day.
Protesters said last week they had received approximately 2,000 letters.
The letters come from the unemployed, indebted college students and grandmothers worried about the financial struggles of younger generations. They are addressed from all over the United States and from abroad; they bear messages of hope, advice and criticism.
With some of the letters are parcels of ponchos, gloves and even cookies. A good number of the senders apologize for being unable to send more because of their financial problems.
