After sex scandal, Democrats spend big to keep House seat in Oregon special election
PORTLAND, Oregon (AP) ' Democrats and their allies have pumped more than $1 million into an Oregon special election race to replace former Rep. David Wu. Republicans have spent $85,000.
Wu is a Democrat who resigned last year after an 18-year-old woman accused him of making an unwanted sexual advance.
Voters in the Portland-area district have until Tuesday evening to return their ballots in the all-mail election.
Republican candidate Rob Cornilles owns a sports marketing business and has pitched himself as a job creator. Former Democratic state Sen. Suzanne Bonamici has emphasized her experience in the state Legislature.
Democrats have represented the district since 1975. They are determined not to lose a friendly district because of a sex scandal, as they did with a New York district represented by Anthony Weiner.
