Dems, GOP woo unmarried women voters
All the single ladies: Democrats, GOP candidates woo unmarried women voters
By The Associated Press

STERLING, Va. (AP) ' Democrats and Republicans are racing to woo single women, sign them up to vote and inspire them to cast a ballot on Election Day.

This group tends to vote overwhelmingly for President Barack Obama's Democratic party, but more than a fifth of unmarried women aren't registered. So for Democrats, the challenge is to sign them up, and rile them up ' so far mostly on the notion that Republicans are waging a so-called "war against women" on issues like contraception.

Republicans, meanwhile, are betting women, like men, will vote on Obama's stewardship of the economy. They're looking to peel off support from more conservative-minded women without spouses.

Women, generally, are perhaps the most sought-after voter group in 2012. They make up a majority of voters in presidential elections.
