Detroit dog lovers push city's 1st no-kill shelter
Where my dogs at?: Detroit rapper scours city for strays while fundraising for no-kill shelter

DETROIT (AP) ' Thousands of stray dogs roam the streets of Detroit on any given day.

Those dogs rounded up by the city's animal control operation or other groups are often euthanized if they go unclaimed over a certain period of days.

It's something that happens far too often for the liking of rapper Dan "Hush" Carlisle and TV producer Monica Martino, who co-founded the nonprofit Detroit Dog Rescue in 2011.

Carlisle and his team hit the streets every day, snapping up loose dogs and trying to find them homes.

Detroit Dog Rescue's ultimate goal is to build the city's first no-kill shelter.

And to that end, DDR says an anonymous donor gave $1.5 million late last year toward the shelter's construction.
