DuPont starts Imprelis claims process, offers compensation for trees damaged by weedkiller
DOVER, Del. (AP) ' The DuPont Co. has begun a program to resolve claims involving damage to trees caused by its weedkiller Imprelis.
The company, facing a rash of lawsuits, says it will compensate lawn care professionals for the removal and replacement of trees destroyed by Imprelis, and provide a two-year warranty for replacement trees. Property owners with validated damage claims related to Imprelis will be eligible for an additional direct payment.
Imprelis was registered in October and marketed to professionals treating residential and commercial lawns, golf courses and sod farms. But shortly after it hit the market, complaints surfaced about damage to trees, particularly evergreens such as Norway spruce and white pine.
Federal regulators say Imprelis may have been misbranded because label directions and warnings were inadequate to protect non-target plant species.
DuPont shares rose almost 2 percent to $46.98 in midday trading.
