Ecclestone appearance delayed at case of ex-German banker charged with accepting bribes
BERLIN (AP) ' Formula One boss Bernie Ecclestone was scheduled to take the stand Wednesday in a German courtroom bribery trial, but his testimony was initially delayed after the defense filed a motion accusing the panel of three judges of bias.
Former bank executive Gerhard Gribkowsky is on trial, charged with accepting taking $44 million in payments from the Formula One boss in connection with the 2006 sale of BayernLB's stake in the racing series.
Ecclestone has not been charged himself in the case and has previously expressed confidence that he will be exonerated of any wrongdoing.
Judges have set aside two days for 81-year-old Ecclestone to testify. Gribkowsky ' a former management board member at public-sector bank BayernLB ' faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
