Europe sets world record, but US cruises in Duel
US cruises to easy win at Duel in the Pool; European women set world record in 400 free relay
By The Associated Press

ATLANTA (AP) ' The United States has cruised to a dominating win at Duel in the Pool, though the European women did set a world record.

Jeanette Ottesen of Denmark, Francesca Halsall of Britain, Aliaksandra Heresimenia of Belarus and Ranomi Kromowidjojo of the Netherlands won the 400-meter freestyle relay Saturday with a time of 3 minutes, 27.53 seconds. That eclipsed the old mark of 3:28.22, set by the Netherlands in 2008.

The Americans won 22 of 30 events for a total of 181.5 points. The Europeans finished with 80.5.

The U.S. has never lost in five appearances at Duel in the Pool, beating Australia three times and Europe in the last two. This year's meet was at the Georgia Tech Aquatic Center, site of the 1996 Summer Olympics.
