Ex-Blagojevich fundraiser Rezko to be sentenced, after 2008 trial exposed pay-to-play culture
CHICAGO (AP) '
A former top fundraiser for Illinois' ousted governor Rod Blagojevich is set to learn if he will be spending more time behind bars for corruption.
Antoin (AN'-twahn) "Tony" Rezko has spent more than three years in prison since his 2008 convictions for fraud, money laundering and plotting to squeeze $7 million in kickbacks from firms wanting to do business with the state during Blagojevich's tenure.
His sentencing, set for Tuesday, had been delayed after he agreed to cooperate with prosecutors. But the government said he yielded no useful information, and wants a sentence of 11 to 15 years. Rezko's attorneys say he's served enough time.
The 56-year-old former real estate developer also raised money for Barack Obama, who has not been accused of wrongdoing. Blagojevich is being sentenced next month.
