Ex-Miss. mayor sentenced in inmate sex case
Former Mississippi mayor sentenced to 7 months for witness tampering in inmate sex case
By The Associated Press

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) ' A former Mississippi mayor and prison warden has been sentenced to seven months behind bars for telling an inmate to lie to investigators about sex they had in a hotel room in 2009.

Grady Sims had served as the mayor of Walnut Grove in central Mississippi for 31 years. In October 2009, he became warden of the Walnut Grove Transition Center, a privately-run prison that had contracts with the state.

Sims drove the inmate to a hotel to have sex with her in November 2009. In March 2010, he was secretly recorded in telephone conversations telling her "to lie to investigators."

Sims was originally charged with sexual assault. In a plea deal, he admitted to witness intimidation and the sexual assault charge was dismissed.
