Woman testifies in Conn. trial of ex-husband accused of kidnapping her, burning house down
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) ' A Connecticut woman has testified that her ex-husband kidnapped her at gunpoint in 2009 from a parking garage and held her hostage for hours while threatening to kill her.
Nancy Tyler took the stand Wednesday at Richard Shenkman's trial in Hartford on kidnapping, assault, arson and other charges. His lawyer is planning an insanity defense.
Tyler said Shenkman brought her to a South Windsor home they once shared and handcuffed himself to her.
She said he put her hand in his pants to show her he had testicular cancer, a claim she says he made several times during their divorce without proof.
Tyler escaped about an hour before Shenkman surrendered to police as the house went up in flames.
The couple had been going through bitter post-divorce court proceedings.
