Father and daughter officers go on patrol in LA
Veteran dad and rookie daughter: LAPD officers patrol San Fernando Valley together
By The Associated Press

LOS ANGELES (AP) It's a tradition at the Los Angeles Police Department. When the child of a veteran officer joins the force, father and child pull a shift on patrol together. Usually it's a proud dad and his son.

On Wednesday, Officer Jamie Carganilla joined her father, Officer Pat Cronin, to cruise a quiet corner of the San Fernando Valley for a father-daughter reunion.

Carganilla has finished her year of probationary service. She's not the first female officer to pull a shift with her father, but it's unusual because the police force is still mostly male.

The two posed for photos and admired vintage photos of her dad at the police academy before beginning their shift in Reseda.

Cronin jokes that he needs a car seat for his daughter. She let him drive.
