Feds seek order on housing in NY county
Feds seek court order against suburban NY county in housing dispute
By The Associated Press

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (AP) The federal government is asking a court to compel New York's Westchester County to provide information about any zoning practices that might be racially discriminatory.

A 2009 settlement in a court dispute over racial patterns in housing required the suburban county, north of New York City, to build 750 units, mostly in heavily-white areas, and market them to non-whites. It also required the county to analyze impediments to fair housing, including local zoning laws.

The court papers were filed Friday by federal prosecutors. In the papers, a federal monitor overseeing the case says the county has been recalcitrant in producing the zoning analysis and other requested information.

A county spokesman said the move is an example of bullying by the government.

Westchester County is home to many wealthy New Yorkers.
