Firefighters contain most of Colo. wildfire, lift evacuation order for town of 300
WRAY, Colo. (AP) ' Authorities have lifted an evacuation order for a town of 300 after containing most of a wildfire on the plains of northeastern Colorado.
Fire spokeswoman Deanna Herbert says residents of Eckley were given the all-clear to return home about 9:15 p.m. Sunday. But the order remains in effect for farms around the town.
She says three firefighters are injured, with two of them still hospitalized.
The wind-fueled grass fire destroyed at least two homes and threatened several others after igniting south of Yuma shortly after 1 p.m. Sunday.
Herbert said shortly before midnight that the fire was 90 percent contained with fire crews still fighting hot spots and flare-ups, after it scorched parts of an 84-square-mile area.
