Fleeing car sought after Vegas funeral shooting
Police seeking custom vehicle seen fleeing after 7 wounded at downtown Las Vegas funeral
By The Associated Press

LAS VEGAS (AP) ' Police gang detectives were looking for a shooter and a distinctive chrome-wheeled vehicle that sped away after seven mourners were wounded outside a downtown Las Vegas funeral for a man stabbed to death days earlier on the Las Vegas Strip.

"We'd really like to talk to whoever was driving that car and whoever owns it," said Las Vegas police Officer Bill Cassell, a department spokesman.

Investigators weren't sure if the white 1970s Chevrolet El Camino with custom purplish side panel paint featuring a smoke-shaded No. 7 was a getaway vehicle or belonged to a witness in the Wednesday evening shootings, Cassell said.

But the police spokesman said the person may hold the key to identifying the gunman who mingled with mourners before pulling a handgun and sending people scattering to avoid multiple shots at a Palm Mortuary on Main Street.

Six adults and one juvenile were taken to various hospitals with wounds that Cassell said weren't believed to be life-threatening. No names or ages were released.

Cassell said police found multiple bullet casings from a single handgun after the shooting. He declined to say what caliber of gun was used. The shooter was described only as a Hispanic man wearing a red shirt.

The funeral was for 21-year-old Andres Armando Elena, who died after he was stabbed before dawn June 25 on a pedestrian walkway spanning the Las Vegas Strip.

Police quickly arrested 25-year-old Victor Quijano on murder, attempted murder and weapon charges in the stabbing. He is being held at the Clark County jail in Las Vegas pending a July 27 evidentiary hearing.

Quijano's lawyer, Gabriel Grasso, did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment.
