Union workers at Ford approve new contract, 63 percent vote in favor
By The Associated Press

DETROIT (AP) ' The United Auto Workers union says 63 percent of its members at Ford Motor Co. have voted to approve a new four-year contract with the company.

The union says in a statement that just over 26,000 workers voted to approve the deal, while about 15,000 voted against it.

The union has now approved contracts with Ford and General Motors Co. Workers at Chrysler have just started to vote on their deal.

At Ford, the deal promises profit-sharing checks instead of pay raises for most workers. Ford also promised $4.8 billion in new investments in U.S. plants and 5,750 new jobs.
