Former NHL player to testify at hearing focused on sex abuse in wake of Penn State scandal
WASHINGTON (AP) ' Congress is set to hear from a former NHL player whose accusations of sexual abuse helped lead to the imprisonment of his former junior coach in Canada.
Sheldon Kennedy will headline Congress' first hearing in the wake of the Penn State scandal.
Last week, Kennedy's former coach, Graham James, pleaded guilty in Canada to sexual assaults involving two former players, including NHL star Theoren Fleury. The coach had already served 3 years in prison for abusing other players, including Kennedy. James was quietly pardoned for his crimes in 2007, leading to public outcry.
Kennedy will testify Tuesday before a subcommittee of the Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions Committee.
